CCTV News: On April 18, the National Energy Administration released data on the whole society's electricity consumption and other data in March. In March, the electricity consumption of the whole society increased by 4.8% year-on-year, and the growth rate of electricity consumption rebounded compared with January-February. Among them, electricity consumption in areas such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicle charging and swapping has maintained rapid growth.
In March, the total electricity consumption of the whole society was 828.2 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%. From the perspective of electricity consumption by industry, the electricity consumption of the primary industry was 10.6 billion kWh, an increase of 9.9% year-on-year; the electricity consumption of the secondary industry was 557.8 billion kWh, an increase of 3.8% year-on-year; the electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 148.4 billion kWh, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year; the electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 111.4 billion kWh, an increase of 5.0% year-on-year.
In the first quarter of 2025, electricity consumption in some industries maintained rapid growth. In the first quarter, the national electricity consumption of information transmission/software and information technology services increased by 13.7% year-on-year.
Hou Wenjie, director of the Statistics and Data Center of the China Electric Power Enterprise Federation, introduced that in the first quarter of 2025, driven by the rapid development of AI, big data, cloud computing, 5G, etc., the national electricity consumption of Internet and related services increased by 25.7% year-on-year. In addition, driven by the rapid development of electric vehicles, the average daily electricity consumption of the charging and swapping service industry in the country has increased by 42.3% year-on-year.
