China Automobile Manufacturers Association: Firmly support our government's ruling on Canada's anti-discrimination investigation into China-related restrictive measures
2025-05-06 source:CCTV.com

CCTV News: The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said that since August last year, the Canadian government has issued a series of trade restrictions on Chinese imports, including a 100% surcharge on electric vehicles imported from China. On March 8, the Ministry of Commerce issued the first anti-discrimination investigation ruling against Canada (Ministry of Commerce Announcement No. 11 of 2025). I will believe that the ruling made by the Ministry of Commerce on the anti-discrimination investigation of Canada's relevant restrictive measures against China is in line with WTO rules and is a normal measure to maintain the development of the industry. I will firmly support the decision made on the announcement.

Canada violated WTO rules, blindly followed other countries, and adopted unilateral tariff measures, undermining the safety and stability of the global automobile industry chain and supply chain, hindering the normal economic and trade cooperation between China and Canada, and greatly harming the interests of local Canadian consumers. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers strongly opposed this.

The development of China's electric vehicles and other industries is based on its own comparative advantages and is the result of open competition. China's electric vehicles are welcomed by global users, including Canadian consumers, and have also made great contributions to the global response to climate change and green transformation. I hope the Chinese government will continue to strengthen exchanges and consultations with relevant Canadian parties, jointly maintain the order of global economic and trade cooperation, and make positive contributions to the sustainable development of the global automobile industry and energy transformation.
