On February 26, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. A reporter asked: Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan, Qiu Chui-zheng, said recently that he hopes to negotiate with the mainland on the basis of mainland students coming to Taiwan but has not received any response; on the one hand, the mainland controls mainland students coming to Taiwan, and on the other hand, it actively encourages Taiwanese students to go to the mainland for exchanges and studies. The mainland should not regard academic exchanges as a tool for "unified front infiltration" with Taiwan. What are your comments on this?
Spokesman Zhu Fenglian said that we need to respond to this question three points.
First, the mainland of the motherland has always been the promoter of exchanges and exchanges between all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the DPP has always been an obstacle and a destroyer. The statements of the DPP authorities distort the facts and turn black and white into black.
Second, the DPP authorities blindly manipulate "anti-China and anti-China", constantly exaggerate the "threat" of the mainland, regard normal exchanges and exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait as a disaster, and discredit the exchanges between students and young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait into a "united front conspiracy". The purpose is to curb cross-strait exchanges and exchanges, increase cross-strait hostility confrontation, create an information cocoon for them to seek "independence" and poison the hearts of the society. This kind of backward behavior has been firmly opposed by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Third, if the DPP authorities' confrontational thinking remains unchanged, cross-strait relations cannot be good. If they sincerely hope that mainland students will resume their studies in Taiwan, they should remove all kinds of obstacles to cross-strait personnel exchanges and exchanges and cooperation as soon as possible, instead of using tricks to create the illusion that they do not recognize the "1992 Consensus" and that cross-straits can also negotiate and dialogue.
