Spreading Spring Festival couplets during the New Year is a traditional folk custom. Every year in the first month of every household, there are literary talent and lively things, some are rich, some are purple and come from the east, and some are happy. Different Spring Festival couplets all rely on their vision for a better life.

21 years ago, Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, sent four Spring Festival couplets to party members and cadres across the province.

On January 29, 2004, the first working day after the Spring Festival, Xi Jinping said at the first special study meeting of the Provincial Party Committee Theoretical Study Center Group in the New Year: During the Spring Festival, when I was in love, I suddenly had a whim and wrote four pairs of Spring Festival couplets. As my study experience, I would like to encourage each other with my comrades.

The four Spring Festival couplets are "seeking the truth of objective reality, and serving the people in governance", "Deepening theoretical armed forces and seeking the truth, in-depth investigation and research and focusing on reality", "Finally implement the work and act in earnestly, accelerate the pragmatic effect of Zhejiang's development", "A high focus on people's livelihood is to be sincere, and insist on taking practical measures for the people's profits". The horizontal drafts are all four big words "seeking truth and pragmatic".

He read these four pairs of Spring Festival couplets and explained them one by one. The first sub-speaking is the profound connotation of seeking truth and pragmatism, which is the question of what truth is and what reality is; the second sub-speaking is the main way to seek truth and what reality is, the question of how to seek truth and how to be pragmatic; the third sub-speaking is the basic requirement of seeking truth and pragmatism, which is the question of how to seek truth and what pragmatism; the fourth sub-speaking is the fundamental purpose of seeking truth and pragmatism, which is the question of who seek truth and who is pragmatism.

Writing the requirements of work in Spring Festival couplets is very unique, but it is by no means just for the sake of uniqueness. Looking back now, 2004 can be regarded as an important node in Zhejiang's development. This year is the "Year of Implementation" for Zhejiang to fully implement the "Eight Eight Strategy". So there is a story of using four pairs of Spring Festival couplets to interpret the "truth-seeking and pragmatic" and a story of the "Eight Eight Strategy".

Opening "Zhijiang New Words", "seeking truth and being pragmatic" is a high-frequency word that cannot be ignored. In the Party’s century-long struggle and at different stages of Zhejiang’s development, “seeking truth and being pragmatic” is also an important high-frequency word and keyword. The Chinese Communists regard seeking truth and being pragmatic as an important idea and working method, and General Secretary Xi Jinping has made a series of vivid statements on this. To a certain extent, seeking truth and being pragmatic is the foundation of all work. Only when the foundation is stable can there be a building; only when the foundation is unstable can it be done in vain.

General Secretary Xi Jinping said it very realistically, "Every household hopes that children can have good education, the elderly can have good elderly care services, and young people can have more development opportunities."

The people express their yearning for good days with Spring Festival couplets, while party members and cadres should take "seeking truth and being pragmatic" as their motto.
