On January 21, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. Spokesperson Peng Qing'en said that the so-called Taiwan-US trade negotiations are essentially the United States using tariffs as a big stick to exert maximum pressure to coerce Taiwan to significantly increase investment in the United States in an attempt to hollow out Taiwan's advantageous industries. The so-called consensus is nothing more than a "voucher" for the Democratic Progressive Party authorities to sell out the welfare and industrial development interests of Taiwanese people. It is a "letter of surrender" to bow down in the face of economic bullying.
He pointed out that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities have beautified pot-for-pot compromise as an "important breakthrough," whitewashed unilateral bullying as "equal cooperation," and packaged kneeling to the end as the "Taiwan model," allowing the United States to rob Taiwan of its industries and drain the marrow of the Taiwanese people. Such incompetence and shamelessness will only completely ruin Taiwan's development prospects.
A reporter asked that after the Taiwan-U.S. tariff negotiations concluded recently, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the reciprocal tariff rate applied by the United States to Taiwanese goods will not exceed 15%; Taiwan's semiconductor and technology companies will make at least US$250 billion in new direct investment in the United States, and the Taiwan authorities will also provide a credit guarantee of at least US$250 billion. The Democratic Progressive Party authorities claimed that the tariff negotiations with the United States have reached the predetermined goals, and the "Taiwan Model" has received support from the United States. Any comments on this? Peng Qingen made the above response when answering questions. (Reporters Zhao Bo, Li Hanfang)
