American guy Evan Kyle
Donated World War II album to China
In November 2022, Evan Kyle obtained a World War II album, including some photos of the atrocities of the Japanese invaders in China. The content in the album made Evan feel deeply uneasy, and he began to think about how to deal with the album: "It may reveal one of China's most painful history." If the album is returned to the seller, the truth above may be buried forever.
Even eventually bought the album and posted videos online for help, hoping to get more clues and suggestions. But he didn't expect that he would fall into a huge storm and someone threatened him. "The Internet ate me alive." He had to put on a bulletproof vest and suspend business, which caused serious psychological problems.
But the brave Evan eventually contacted the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago. He solemnly handed the album to the Chinese representative: "I am very honored to donate this album in the name of peace, harmony and friendship."
On the same day, Evan received a letter from the consulate and Chinese porcelain symbolizing precious friendship. These two gifts have been with Evan, "it means I did the right thing."
A year after donating the album, Evan posted a post on his personal website to record his mental journey of the past year - "crossing the storm". At the end of the article, he quoted a sentence from the consulate’s republic letter: “Learn from history, your donation will inspire the world and defend peace with kindness.”
Traveling to China for the first time
He went to the Spring Festival Gala and wore red autumn pants
This year, November 16th - two full years of donating albums, Evan began his first trip to China as he wished: his first stop was Beijing. After landing, he slept for only an hour before heading straight to Tiananmen Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony.
In the crowd, an enthusiastic elder brother saw him dressed in thin clothes and thoughtfully gave his military coat to Evan. Evan said happily: "This is the coolest coat I have ever worn."
On New Year's Eve, Evan, dressed in Tang suit, reported the show of the Spring Festival Gala of the General Station in the Year of the Snake, and also brought Chinese porcelain symbolizing precious friendship back from the consulate.
From the first time he came to China in November last year, he has a deeper understanding of China. "I know that in China, the Spring Festival Gala of the Taiwan Taiwan is the most popular TV program every year. The Chinese people sit together to watch it. This is also a big event on New Year's Eve." He was very surprised and flattered to be invited to watch the Spring Festival Gala on site!
From participating in the Spring Festival Gala rehearsal to the live broadcast, Evan felt the hard work and efforts of the cast and crew members in front and behind the scenes: "All processes, settings, program arrangements and the traditional culture conveyed by each program have always infected me."
"I am a snake, and this year is my zodiac year, and my good luck is doubled."
What moved and surprised Evan was that this year happened to be his zodiac year. He went to the countryside to wear red sweaters, and for the sake of double the good luck, he also put on red autumn pants.
In more than two months, Evan went to Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Harbin, Wuhan and other cities. The original 30-day plan also became 90 days as the journey deepened. Evan told the reporter of the Taiwan Taiwan that his trip to China was very smooth and he also discovered more things he wanted to do, "For peace and exchange, maybe I can do more constructive things."
"I want to truly integrate into China and feel the charm of China"
When talking about his mood for this trip to China, Evan said that in fact he really wanted to see what China has experienced from the way it looks in the album to the present.
In his opinion, China's infrastructure and public transportation convenience are far higher than that of the United States. "Every day in China, I receive surprises brought by various 'black technologies', and these surprises have long been accustomed to the Chinese. The whole journey has far exceeded my expectations."

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. During this journey, Evan also went to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre of Japanese Invaders in China to gain an in-depth understanding of that painful history. "We should all learn and improve from what happened in the past so we don't repeat the same mistakes in the future, and that's the most right thing we can do."
In the process of communicating with Evan, the most commonly mentioned keyword is "peace". He hopes that the album will promote people to reflect on aggression and atrocities and cherish the peace in front of them more. "This incident not only builds a 'bridge' of peace, but also gives me new value. I am very proud to have such a valuable experience."
Today, Evan set off for the United States and plans to return to China again after a month of rest in the United States. As for the details of the subsequent itinerary to China, it has not been confirmed yet. "I still want to go to more cities I have never experienced before, truly integrate into China and feel the charm of China."
Evan Kyle, welcome again!
