The reporter learned from the State Energy Group today that the second cross-border railway between China and Mongolia, China Ganqimaodu to Mongolia, has officially started construction. This is the second China-Mongolia cross-border railway rebuilt after the completion and opening of traffic in 1956.

This railway is jointly promoted by China and Mongolia. It departs from the Ganqimaodu Port in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and passes through the Gashusu Haitu Port in Mongolia, and connects to the Gashusu Haitu Station in South Gobi Province, Mongolia. It has a total length of 9.91 kilometers.

The head of Ganqimaodu Company of the Baoshen Railway of the State Energy Group Wang Shangjun: This railway is responsible for transporting imported coking coal from Mongolia into China, and is shipped to many places in the country through Ganqimaodu Station, with an annual transportation capacity of 30 million tons. After completion, the annual customs clearance capacity of Ganqimaodu border port is expected to double, effectively driving the upgrading of cross-border logistics, industrial parks, border services and other business formats between China and Mongolia.

It is understood that both sides of the railway sections within China and Mongolia have built their own construction, and the cross-border section is connected by a 6.08-kilometer bridge. The entire railway is planned to be completed and opened to traffic in 2027.
