Joint Statement of China and Brazil on the Ukrainian Crisis
(Beijing, May 13, 2025)
1. China and Brazil welcome President Putin's proposal to start peace talks on May 10, and President Zelensky's positive statement.
2. China and Brazil hope that Russia and Ukraine will start direct dialogue as soon as possible, which is the only way to end the conflict.
3. China and Brazil actively evaluate the recent signals on the willingness to conduct dialogue, and look forward to the parties concerned to start fruitful negotiations, gather more consensus to achieve a political settlement, and resolve the reasonable concerns of all parties. They believe that it is necessary to find a solution to the Ukrainian crisis from the root, in order to ultimately reach a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement.
4. In order to achieve the above goals, China and Brazil called on all parties to create conditions for the restoration of dialogue in May 2024. In September of the same year, the two countries launched the "Friends of Peace" group at the United Nations, uniting countries around the world.
5. China and Brazil are willing to work with southern countries around the world to continue to make positive efforts to resolve the crisis.
