CCTV News: On January 15, Chen Binhua, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, introduced at a press conference that on January 7, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred in Dingri County, Shigatse City, Tibet, causing major casualties. After the disaster, relevant parties in mainland China organized rescue efforts and made every effort to protect the lives and property of the people, so that earthquake relief work would be carried out in a strong, orderly and effective manner. All walks of life and people in Taiwan expressed concern and condolences to the disaster areas through various forms and provided donations. According to incomplete statistics, as of January 10, the National Taiwan Enterprise Federation and Taiwanese businessmen and Taiwanese enterprises had donated more than RMB 32 million. Relevant groups, institutions and performing artists on the island have extended a helping hand to the disaster area and donated money and materials.
