The ancient city of Lijiang was built in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has a long history of more than 800 years. In December 1997, the ancient city of Lijiang was listed on the World Cultural Heritage List.

On March 19, after a spring snowfall, the ancient Lijiang Ancient City welcomed a special guest. He Maodie, 33 years old this year, is the tour guide of the Lijiang Ancient City Museum (Mu Mansion). She is a native of the Naxi people and is also the guide of our "understanding" journey. At the first stop, she took us to an alley with the characteristics of an ancient city.

He Maodie said, "When the General Secretary came, the sound of drums, singing, and people's cheers on this street... were particularly lively. Everyone sang and danced, and invited the General Secretary to have coffee together."

Let the historical and cultural heritage "live"

Following the song of Naxi, we accidentally stepped into a cultural courtyard in the ancient city of Lijiang: Tiandiyuan. Here, Dongba music and dance performances are held for free every day. In the ancient city of Lijiang, there are more than 30 cultural courtyards scattered, each courtyard is a world, creating a new place for cultural heritage and providing tourists with a new perspective for in-depth understanding of Lijiang. Here, the heritage displayed on the vast land seems to have really "live".

A native Naxi man, a staff member of the Tiandiyuan Courtyard, said: "Although our place is not a very big stage, when you come to the ancient city, you can still experience and feel the purest and most precious culture in our small courtyard."

Leave memories and remember homesickness

Lijiang Ancient City integrates scenic spots, communities, and heritage, and many local residents still live here. The Hengyu Citizen Residence Museum was originally the home of Uncle Aliu. Since 1875, Uncle Aliu has lived here for generations. In 2010, Hengyu Citizens' Houses Museum was opened to the public for free, and now it has become a check-in place for tourists to experience the living house culture of the ancient city.

Uncle A Liu said: "The house must be 'living' and open it to let more tourists see what the truly ancient yard looks like. This is the charm we show the world about world cultural heritage."

Sifang Street, the center of the ancient city of Lijiang. Whenever night falls, people from all over the world and from different ethnic groups gather here, singing and dancing, and expressing their yearning for a better life together. The value of world cultural heritage is not only condensed between every grass, wood, brick and tile of the ancient city, but also permeates people's lives in a vivid way.
