Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning presided over the regular press conference held today (March 20). A reporter asked: It is reported that on the 19th, Morenner, chairman of the "Advanced Committee of China", wrote a letter to the presidents of six American universities, asking him to provide detailed information on Chinese students at the school before April 1, saying that China has installed researchers in the top institutions in the United States so that they can directly contact dual-use sensitive technologies. If not respond, relevant trends will continue to squeeze American talents, undermine American research integrity, and encourage China's technological ambitions at the expense of damaging the United States. What is China’s comment on this?
Mao Ning said that the number of Chinese students in the United States accounts for about 1/4 of the total number of international students. Educational cooperation not only expands the exchange channels between students from both countries and enhances understanding between the people of the two countries, but also helps promote US economic prosperity and scientific and technological development, which is in the interests of both sides. We urge the US to stop generalizing national security, effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students, and not take discriminatory or restrictive measures against Chinese students.
