Xiamen, Fujian: "Panda Parking Space" + Smart Pickup to Relieve Congestion at the School Gate
At the peak hours of school entrances, congestion on the roads around the campus is a trouble faced by many schools and parents. In Xiamen, Fujian, some schools have set up special parking areas and launched smart pick-up and drop-off systems for students to go to and from school to relieve congestion at the school gate and strengthen traffic safety management around the campus.
At 7:30 in the morning, at the gate of Xiamen Music School, more and more vehicles were sending children to school. The reporter saw that on the side of the road near the school gate, five "panda parking spaces" were set up. Parents wearing "red vests" on the side guided students to enter the campus through the intersection, and the surrounding traffic was generally smooth and orderly.
Student parents told reporters that in the past, during the school gate, the vehicles picking up and dropping off children at the school gate, combined with rush hour traffic at morning and evening, which easily leads to road congestion and also brings safety hazards to students' travel. In order to solve this problem, the police station in the jurisdiction, in conjunction with municipal gardens, traffic police and other departments, carried out multiple "micro-renovations" of facilities around the campus, opened five new connections, and set up "panda parking spaces" dedicated to picking up and dropping off students' vehicles. The local urban construction department has also planned a "panda car storage area" around the school, providing 80 parking spaces. Parents of students can park for free for 30 minutes here. After their children leave school, they can drive to the "Panda Parking Space" to quickly pick them up.
The police introduced that the panda parking space is for students, and the reason why this name is to distinguish it from ordinary parking spaces. In order to make it more convenient and safer for parents to pick up and drop off their children, many schools in Xiamen have adapted to local conditions and innovated the pick-up and drop-off model. There are many vehicles around the primary schools affiliated to the Xiamen Academy of Education and Sciences. In September last year, the school relied on the underground parking lot to launch a smart pick-up system for students to and from school. When the child passes his face to register in the waiting area after school, the parents will receive a notice of his child's schooling. After registering license plates and other information online, the vehicle can enter the school underground garage to pick up the child without waiting at the school gate. The whole process only takes a few minutes.
