CCTV News: In order to fully grasp the development of sea ice in the Bohai Sea and other sea areas in winter, and do a good job in observing and forecasting the rapid development stage of sea ice, the "Polar" independently designed and built by my country recently went deep into the sea ice area of ​​Liaodong Bay to carry out a series of comprehensive investigations such as scientific sea ice inspections.

The "Polar" icebreaking investigation ship is affiliated to the Beihai Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources. It is a new generation icebreaking investigation ship independently designed and built by my country. The "Polar" has a total length of 89.95 meters, a width of 17.8 meters, a total tonnage of 4,600 tons, and a range of 14,000 nautical miles. This is the first time that the "Polar" will carry out a comprehensive winter survey voyage mission in the Bohai Sea after it has been completed in 2024.

The reporter learned that the "Polar" conducted a comprehensive investigation in the core ice area of ​​the Liaodong Bay, Bohai Sea, including conducting multi-factor centralized observation and timed navigation observation, covering multiple professional directions such as sea ice observation and remote sensing technology research. Many domestic marine research institutes and universities also participated in the scientific investigation task.

At present, the "Polar" is conducting a three-dimensional comprehensive investigation covering the "sky-sky-ice-sea-bottom" in the core ice area of ​​the Liaodong Bay, Bohai Sea. The survey data will be applied in real time to guide port shipping ice-breaking navigation and oil and gas platform ice-resistant production, which will help early warning agencies to master the development laws of sea ice and improve the accuracy of numerical forecasts. The research results will also provide technical support for scientific research such as ice-resistant engineering design, analysis of the ecological environment of the ice age, protection of rare species and ship ice load.
