The reporter learned from the Southern Power Grid that on February 26, the China-Laos 500 kV networking project officially started construction. After the project is completed, it can transport 3 billion kV of clean electricity every year.
According to reports, the China-Laos 500 kV networking project started this time has a total transmission line of 183.5 kilometers. The starting point is in Udomsey Province, Laos and the landing point is in Yunnan Province, China. The construction of the project is divided into Laos section and China section. The Laos section line is about 35.5 kilometers long and the Chinese section line is about 148 kilometers long. The project will build a new 500 kV substation.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2026. After it is put into operation, the two-way power mutual assistance capacity between China and Laos is expected to reach 1.5 million kilowatts of which can transport 3 billion kilowatts of clean electricity each year.
Second General Manager of Lancang-Mekong International Energy Co., Ltd., Lin Rui: The China-Laos 500 kV networking project has improved the two-way power transmission capacity between the two countries. When Laos has surplus electricity, clean energy is sent to China. When Laos' electricity consumption is peak, clean electricity from China can also be replenished in time to achieve optimized allocation of cross-regional and large-scale clean energy.
