News from CCTV: On December 6, the Office of National Security in Hong Kong, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Hong Kong National Security Law, interviewed some heads of foreign news organizations and reporters in Hong Kong in response to the false information and hype surrounding the recent Wangfu Court fire and the Hong Kong Legislative Council election.

The PCPD believes that after the fire in Wang Fook Court, everyone from the central government to the SAR, from the government to the private sector, and from Hong Kong to the mainland made concerted efforts to fight the disaster and provide disaster relief. The international community has expressed condolences and concern, and the media has followed closely and reported objectively.

The Commissioner’s Office pointed out that recent foreign media reports on Hong Kong have ignored the facts, spread false information, distorted and smeared the government’s disaster relief and aftermath work, attacked and interfered with the Legislative Council election, incited social polarization and opposition, destroyed Hong Kong’s current atmosphere of cohesion and overcoming difficulties, failed to sympathize with the pain and feelings of the victims, hurt the feelings of Hong Kong citizens, and misled the understanding of the international community. The Commissioner’s Office expressed serious concern about this.

The Commissioner's Office emphasized that "press freedom" and compliance with the law go hand in hand, and no media may use the name of "press freedom" to interfere in China's internal affairs or Hong Kong affairs. All heads of foreign news organizations and reporters in Hong Kong have the obligation to abide by the law. They must abide by the Hong Kong Basic Law, the Hong Kong National Security Law, the Hong Kong National Security Regulations and other laws, strictly implement the SAR's management regulations on news reporting, strictly abide by the professional ethics of journalism, adhere to the principles of true, accurate, objective and fair reporting, and must not fabricate and spread false information.

The Office stated that it hopes that journalists from foreign news organizations in Hong Kong can uphold professional ethics and report objectively and fairly; they hope to strictly abide by relevant legal regulations; they hope to cherish themselves, do their best, and not touch legal red lines. As the spokesperson of the Commissioner's Office said in a statement, we will never tolerate the actions of all anti-China disruptors in Hong Kong who "use disasters to disrupt Hong Kong". The Office of the Commissioner has always acted strictly in accordance with the law and will, as always, pay close attention to relevant media reports.

The Commissioner’s Office declares that it supports the SAR government in always respecting and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of journalists from foreign news organizations in Hong Kong to engage in reporting and reporting in Hong Kong in accordance with the law, and will continue to provide necessary convenience and assistance.
