CCTV News: On April 29, the construction of Tongning-Ningbo High-speed Railway, which is the high-speed railway from Nantong, Jiangsu to Ningbo, Zhejiang, ushered in new progress. The "Red Boat" shield machine of the Fenhu Tunnel was successfully received, marking the completion of the first tunnel on the entire line.

CCTV reporter Liu Yanlin: This is Wujiang District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. I am in the Fenhu Tunnel of Tongning-Ningbo High-speed Railway that just completed this morning. The total length is 3732 meters, the shield section is 2420 meters, and it is designed as a single-hole double-line tunnel. It uses a 14.82-meter domestically produced super-large diameter mud water balance shield machine "Red Boat" to excavate, and the completion was achieved in just 204 days.

The newly built line of Tongning-Ningbo High-speed Railway is 301 kilometers long, passing through Nantong City, Suzhou City, Jiaxing City and Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The Fenhu Tunnel is the first tunnel to be connected to the entire line and the first cross-provincial high-speed railway tunnel in the country. Since the launch of the shield mechanism in August 2024, the "Red Boat" shield mechanism has successively penetrated from south to north through the National Water Sports Center, flood control embankment, Fenhu, National Highway G318, etc., passed through multiple ecological protection areas and water source protection areas, and involved river channel relocation projects.

Chief Engineer of Fenhu Tunnel of Tongsu-Jia-Ningbo High-speed Railway of China Railway Tunnel Bureau: During the excavation process, through real-time dynamic monitoring and attitude adjustment of the shield machine, the "Red Boat" shield machine has successfully passed through all risk sources, and at the same time achieved accurate reception under 7.26m ultra-shallow soil covering, reflecting that my country's ultra-large diameter mud-water shield has reached the international leading level under ultra-shallow soil covering conditions.

In view of the unique geological conditions of Fenhu, the "Red Boat" has carried out in-depth intelligent customization to realize the intelligent excavation of "self-decision of parameters and self-execution of operations". At the same time, it is equipped with an advanced mud-water separation system. Each meter of the shield tunnel can save 228.4 tons of tap water, achieving "zero leakage, zero emissions, and zero pollution."

Chief Expert of China Railway Tunnel Bureau Hong Kairong: After the completion of the Tongning-Ningbo High-speed Railway, it will only take 1 hour to go from Nantong to Ningbo; the line will be connected with multiple lines such as the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway, which is of great significance for building the "Yangtze River Delta on the rail", improving the regional road network layout, and filling the gaps in the north-south vertical supply in the Yangtze River Delta region.
