CCTV News: In the 2025 government work report, many new terms appeared, such as 6G, artificial intelligence mobile phones, artificial intelligence computers, etc., which are the first time that they have appeared in the government work report. To what extent have these cutting-edge new technologies developed in reality? What new experience will it bring to us? What new opportunities are emerging behind these new nouns?

6G is the sixth generation of mobile communication technology. Simply put, 6G is a more powerful communication technology. Its goal is to provide faster speed, lower latency, higher reliability, as well as converge multi-dimensional capabilities such as communication, perception, computing, AI, big data, and security to support more emerging application scenarios. 6G is the key infrastructure in the digital and intelligent era, supporting the "integration of digital and reality, and ubiquitous wisdom" in the future society.

Hu Xiaopeng, head of the Communications Industry Research Center of CIDI Consulting, introduced that in terms of bandwidth and speed, 6G is expected to use higher spectrum resources such as the terahertz band, thereby achieving higher bandwidth and faster transmission speeds. In terms of latency, 6G aims to achieve microsecond or even lower latency. In terms of connection density, 6G will support more devices to connect simultaneously, which will help support hyperscale connections.

In the 6G era, base stations will support communication and perception at the same time, and can use radio waves to sense the surrounding environment, the shape and movement of objects, etc., which not only improves the performance of communication, but also creates new services. What changes does 6G bring to our lives?

6G is defined as the next generation of communication technology of "all-domain intelligent network". This not only means that the increase in network speed will increase, but will also trigger a systematic change in human lifestyle.

Ding Haiyu, deputy director of China Mobile Research Institute, introduced that in the future, for example, in the scenario of remote meetings, holographic images can be provided, so that everyone can feel an immersive experience. In terms of robots, 6G can combine it with artificial intelligence-related technologies to provide better services through its high speed and low latency.

In the 6G era, the organic integration of land mobile communications and high, medium and low-orbit satellites will achieve seamless global coverage and on-demand access for anyone, anywhere, and at any time. 6G networks can cover places such as deserts, oceans, and air where ground signals are difficult to cover, achieving seamless connection across the entire domain.

Ding Haiyu introduced that users can connect to the network whether they are in the desert or in the ocean, or in emergency situations. Compared with today's satellite networks, it can provide higher speeds and provide corresponding high-quality services such as videos, high-definition videos, etc. my country is accelerating the development of the 6G industry

At present, global 6G technology research and development has entered the stage of key technology research from concept exploration. Countries are accelerating their layout around the commercial targets in 2030, and my country is also accelerating the development of the 6G industry.

In 2019, my country established the China IMT-2030 (6G) promotion group and the National 6G Technology R&D promotion working group. In 2023, the 6G Promotion Group released white papers such as "6G Network Architecture Outlook" and "6G Wireless System Design Principles and Typical Characteristics", and made a comprehensive outlook and plan for 6G network systems, deployment scenarios, etc. In January 2025, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Data Administration, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "National Data Infrastructure Construction Guidelines", pointing out that it is necessary to comprehensively promote the research and development and innovation of 6G network technology and lay out the "world-integrated" satellite Internet.

Ding Haiyu introduced that starting from 2025, 6G has entered the first year of standardization. In the second half of 2024, the first standardized 6G standard project was established. In 2025, the standardization of 6G should be said to be fully launched to promote more in-depth research on key 6G technologies and some future related scenarios.

According to the IMT-2030 (6G) promotion group forecast, new services such as intelligent interaction, communication perception, and general intelligence will emerge in the commercial 6G networks in 2030.

It is expected that by 2040, the number of 6G terminal connections will increase by more than 30 times compared with 2022, and the average monthly traffic will increase by more than 130 times, ultimately bringing a broad market development space for 6G with a number of terminal connections of 100 billion and a trillion-level GB monthly average traffic.
