CCTV News: Hetai New District, Kunyu City, Hotan City, Xinjiang, lives with 8 different ethnic groups, with nearly 3,000 people, and is a typical mutually embedded community. In 2016, two villages with poor natural conditions moved here as a whole and formed this new community together. In the past decade, multi-ethnic people have lived next to each other. How have they gotten along? "Go to the Grassroots of the New Year" and let's go to Hetai New District together.

Hetai New District, Kunyu City, Xinjiang, located on the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, is the largest community in the area. The 527 households and 2,948 residents here come from eight different ethnic groups, including Han, Uyghur, Hui, Tujia, and Tibetan.

Most residents are still engaged in farming and raising sheep, but the sheep here are not ordinary sheep.

Before moving to the new district, Aili made a living by farming and breeding. The sheep he showed us that can produce multiple births and have a high survival rate was the "improved sheep" bred by his new neighbor Jia Xingbing.

The reason why Jia Xingbing became neighbors with everyone was that in 2022, Hetai New District specially recruited him from Ningxia in order to develop the breeding industry. Things are good things, but when Jia Xingbing and the community first started promoting, their neighbors didn't agree with it.

In order to eliminate everyone's concerns, Jia Xingbing and the community jointly held more than ten training sessions to promote variety improvement and breeding technology, but this did not dispel everyone's concerns. So the community came up with a way to buy a batch of "improved sheep" and breed it for everyone for free.

The Aili family was the first group of residents to obtain ten "improved sheep". With the help of Jia Xingbing and the community, these sheep have produced more than 50 little lambs. They grow to three or four months old, and each one can be sold for more than 1,000 yuan.

At Aili's warm invitation, we came to his house as a guest.

Aili introduced that the village he lived in before was surrounded by wind and sand all year round, with less than one acre of land per person, and many families still live in Caobafang. His family's annual per capita income is less than 4,000 yuan, and most villagers rely on the most basic breeding methods to make a living. At that time, everyone lived in scattered areas and it was difficult for the village committees to carry out their work. Now, everyone has moved together, and the community regularly organizes exchanges and training activities, providing everyone with a lot of space for mutual learning and reference, and cooperative development of industries. Aili has also made many friends.

With the vigorous promotion of the community, the villagers have seen the benefits brought by "improved sheep". Now, all 56 households in the village have begun to raise new varieties.

Sheep are a good helper for the residents here to increase their income, but there are inevitably some minor frictions around them.

Now, two Uyghur residents had a dispute over the sheep, and the community mediators rushed to persuade them to fight after hearing the news.

It turned out that community resident Kaiyoumu spent 5,000 yuan half a month ago to rent a harvested corn field, which was specially used to herd sheep. Unexpectedly, more than 200 sheep stolen from his neighbor Abdu Maimeti's house were eaten for five or six hours.

Kayomu claimed 5,000 yuan, but Abdumaimati was only willing to pay 500 yuan. The two sides were in a stalemate, and the mediator could only do one-on-one work.

After more than two hours of going back and forth, the two finally reached an agreement that because there were no high-quality corn kernels left in the field, Abdumaimati took over the land for 1,500 yuan, until spring plowing, which also included compensation for Kaiyoumu.

During the Spring Festival, there were more happy events in the community. The Abrajiang family married a wife; the Yiming family bought a new tractor; Toheti Maimai pulled his neighbor Xu Jin to prepare for the community's agricultural machinery cooperative; Aili and Jumanwat attended the community village evening, and were also very busy, with a strong New Year atmosphere everywhere.
