Dragon and snake alternate between, and spring is written on the rafters——Appreciation of Professor Yan Gongda’s New Spring Festival Couplets

2025-04-28

Every time on the eve of the Spring Festival, there is always an expectation in my heart, all because I can appreciate the Spring Festival couplets carefully written by Professor Yan Gongda and written by himself. On January 27, the Jiangnan Times published the front page of Professor Yan's Spring Festival couplet full of blessings and expectations:

Looking at the misty auspicious atmosphere, the pen finishes the wall, and the year of Chen is happy to paint a well-off scene;

Floating and wind swaying, the dragon exerts its strength and joyfully soars into the sky, and the book is a great book in the year of Si.

This Spring Festival couplet is not only a sincere blessing for the New Year, but also a affectionate look back at the past and a beautiful outlook for the future. It sounds the wonderful music of the interweaving of the times and culture in the rhythm of the Spring Festival.

The first word of the first couplet, "Lan", broadens the viewer's horizon and leads us to witness the auspicious aura that rises with our own eyes and spreads around us. This word "玉" is similar to "玉" in Lao Du's "Will be on the top of the mountain, and look down on all the mountains". It has a kind of heroic spirit that can see the beautiful scenery of the world.

The second sentence "The pen finishes the mark and breaks the wall", cleverly uses allusions to review the struggle in the Year of the Dragon. "Rhin pen" is as thick as a large brush as a rafter; "finishing the finishing touch to break through the wall" means breaking through difficulties and pursuing lofty, and showing people's firm determination to break through themselves and pursue excellence. Premier Zhou Enlai said in "The Song of the Great River Turns East": "Following the Wall for ten years to break the Wall." As long as you have firm determination and unremitting perseverance, after long-term efforts and persistence, you will eventually soar into the sky like a giant dragon that takes off the wall.

The last sentence of the first couplet vividly summarizes the brilliant achievements of the past year with concise and vivid brushstrokes. In just seven words, time, action and achievements are closely linked, which not only reflects the development of the times, but also expresses people's joy and pride in drawing a picture of a well-off life in the Year of the Dragon.

The first word "Mu" in the second couplet places people in the arms of the spring breeze, giving people a feeling of immersing in it and enjoying it. The comfortable and comfortable mood created by this word is very similar to the free and leisurely atmosphere in "Bath in the Yi River, the wind in the dance of the chime, and the singing is back." The vast spring breeze not only brings physical comfort, but also symbolizes that people's hearts are nourished and their lives are full of hope in a harmonious and beautiful environment.

"The dragon exerts its strength and joys the sky", this "dragon" is a spiritual symbol of the Chinese nation, representing powerful strength and high fighting spirit. The word "strength" shows the majestic momentum of accumulating for a long time and striving hard; "Happy to the sky" vividly depicts the magnificent scene of a giant dragon soaring straight into the sky, which not only contains the meaning of a perfect ending with a full sense of accomplishment in the Year of the Dragon, but also cleverly lays the foundation for the outlook of the last sentence. The dragon waved goodbye, and the dragon took over and walked forward.

"The Great Writings of the Sui Sui" is a wonderful ending of the entire couplet, and is sonorous and powerful. "Si Sui" carries a new beginning and infinite hope, indicating that in this new year, people will write a unique chapter of themselves and the times with firm beliefs and unremitting efforts. "Dayou" comes from the "Dayou Hexagram" in the "Book of Changes", which is a sign of grand and abundant life, and also indicates a good harvest. In "Guan Jingdu", Chu Guangxi of the Tang Dynasty wrote: "It can make autumn great things happen, and the propaganda will urge each other to go far away." In this couplet, "Da You" expresses infinite expectations for the Year of the Snake, indicating that both individuals and countries will gain a lot of money and create more glory this year.

Professor Yan's brush and ink paint the magnificence of the Year of the Dragon and spread the new chapter of the Year of the Snake, which is worthy of appreciation. Let us accompany this ink fragrance and walk through the light in the new year, writing infinitely wonderful.
