Zhao Yong is 49 years old this year and has 23 years of coaching experience. In 2002, he started with the Liaoning Youth Men's Volleyball Team, took charge of the National Youth Men's Volleyball Team at the age of 29, and became the head coach of the Liaoning Women's Volleyball Team at the age of 30. In 2013, he led the Liaoning Youth Women's Volleyball Team to win the National Games silver medal.
In the league, the Liaoning women's volleyball team is in the ranks of traditional strong teams. In the 2006-2007 National Women's Volleyball League, Zhao Yong led the team to the runner-up in his first season of coaching the Liaoning team; in the 2017-2018 season and the 2021-2022 season, the Liaoning team won the fourth place twice; in the just-concluded 2-0 season, the Liaoning women's volleyball team defeated the defending champion Tianjin team with a total score of 2-0 in the bronze medal match, winning the third place in the volleyball Super League.
In the years of coaching for the Liaoning Women's Volleyball Team, Zhao Yong trained famous players such as Ding Xia and Yan Ni.
In 2023, Zhao Yong served as the head coach of the second national women's volleyball team to the Chengdu Universiade, leading the Chinese team to defeat the Japanese team 3:0 in the final and successfully won the championship. At the Women's Volleyball Championship held in the same year, Zhao Yong led the team to win the silver medal. In 2024, the Chinese team he coached won the championship in the World U17 Women's Volleyball Championship.
After Zhao Yong served as the head coach of the national team, he led the new Chinese women's volleyball team to make his new cycle debut in the World Women's Volleyball League and will also go to the World Championship in August.
