The National Energy Administration held a press conference today and publicly released my country's first hydrogen energy development report.

The report shows that in 2024, my country's annual production and consumption scale of hydrogen energy exceeded 36.5 million tons, ranking first in the world. As of the end of 2024, the cumulative production capacity of global renewable energy hydrogen production projects exceeded 250,000 tons per year, and China accounts for more than half of it. It has gradually become a leading country in the development of global renewable energy hydrogen production and related industries.

Xu Jilin, deputy director of the Energy Conservation and Science and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration, introduced that in 2024, the national hydrogen production in the Three Norths accounted for more than 50%, and Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia and other regions all ranked high in hydrogen production. As of the end of 2024, more than 600 renewable energy electrolytic hydrogen production projects have been planned and built across the country, of which more than 150 have been built and the completed production capacity is about 125,000 tons per year, mainly distributed in the northwest and North China regions, accounting for nearly 90% of the country’s completed production capacity.

The report pointed out that in 2024, my country will gradually make breakthroughs in key technologies in the production, storage and transportation of hydrogen energy and use of the entire chain. A number of large-scale renewable energy hydrogen production projects have been completed and operated, and the demonstration application of fuel cell vehicles has been steadily promoted. More than 540 hydrogen refueling stations have been built in various places.

The new installed capacity of renewable energy in the first quarter accounts for 90% of all new installed capacity

At the press conference, the National Energy Administration introduced that this year, my country's renewable energy installed capacity has achieved new breakthroughs and continues to maintain its dominant position in new installed capacity.

The latest data shows that in the first quarter, the national renewable energy capacity added 76.75 million kilowatts, an increase of 21% year-on-year, accounting for about 90% of all new capacity. Among them, hydropower added 2.13 million kilowatts, wind power added 14.62 million kilowatts, solar power generation added 59.71 million kilowatts, and biomass power generation added 290,000 kilowatts. As of the end of March 2025, the national renewable energy installed capacity reached 1.966 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 24%, accounting for about 57.3% of my country's total installed capacity.

Pan Huimin, deputy director of the Department of New Energy and Renewable Energy of the National Energy Administration, introduced that this year, my country's renewable energy power generation has steadily reached a new level. The proportion of wind power and solar power generation in the whole society exceeded 20%, exceeding the electricity consumption of the tertiary industry and the daily electricity consumption of urban and rural residents during the same period, driving the proportion of non-fossil energy power generation to about 40%. The new electricity added to wind power photovoltaics exceeds the increase in electricity consumption of the whole society. In the first quarter, my country's new energy utilization rate remained at a high level, with the average utilization rate of wind power reaching 93.3%, and the utilization rate of photovoltaic power generation reaching 93.6%.

As of the end of March, the number of charging infrastructure in my country exceeded 13 million units.

The reporter learned from a press conference held by the National Energy Administration today that my country has accelerated the construction of a high-quality charging infrastructure system. As of the end of March, the number of charging infrastructure in my country has exceeded 13 million units.

The latest data shows that as of the end of March 2025, the number of charging infrastructure in my country reached 13.749 million, an increase of 47.6% year-on-year, including 3.9 million public charging facilities and 9.849 million private charging facilities. A total of 38,000 charging facilities have been built in the expressway service area, covering 98% of the service areas across the country.

Zhang Xing, deputy director of the Comprehensive Department of the National Energy Administration, introduced that except Tibet and Qinghai, other provinces across the country have achieved the goal of "full coverage of counties and counties" in charging stations, with the coverage rate of county charging facilities across the country reaching 97.31%; 13 provinces have achieved "full coverage of township charging piles" and the coverage rate of township charging facilities reached 76.91%.

Zhang Xing introduced that in order to better solve the problems of holiday travel that everyone is concerned about, the National Energy Administration is currently working with relevant departments to formulate policy documents for the construction and transformation of high-power charging facilities, and encourage local governments and enterprises to focus on the scene of charging and walking on expressway service areas and other scenarios, and to arrange high-power charging facilities according to local conditions.

The May Day holiday is approaching, and the National Energy Administration has guided local governments to update existing old charging facilities and increase temporary charging equipment. At the same time, it has dispatched additional personnel on duty and carried out equipment maintenance in advance. By using information platforms, it has strengthened monitoring to ensure that the charging service work during the May Day period is orderly, safe, reliable, standardized and efficient.
