From the 27th, the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show ushered in Public Day. Under the trend of electrification and intelligent iteration and upgrading, exhibitors have put forward higher requirements for safety, displayed a number of the latest safety technologies, and laid a solid foundation for the development of intelligent connected new energy vehicles.
The reporter noticed at the scene that unlike before, the words "autonomous driving" and "unmanned driving" that frequently appear in various publicity and promotions at the auto show quietly disappeared, and were replaced by a more objective and pragmatic "combined driving assistance".
GAC Group Chairman Feng Xingya: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued online terms and promotional terms that regulate manufacturers. These driving at L2 level must be assisted. It is easy to mislead consumers and invisibly enter the state of autonomous driving, which is very dangerous.
Changan Automobile Chairman Zhu Huarong: In marketing promotion, we must always remind our users that our current technology is still driving assistance, not driverless, not completely able to take off our eyes and hands, and we cannot sleep. These behaviors do not conform to the reality of this stage.
Not only that, many domestic vehicle companies are also accelerating the improvement of software and hardware coordination, and further improving product safety by optimizing the cooperation of active suspension and safety systems.
Lantu Automobile CEO Lu Fang: While intelligence continues to give cars more capabilities, we must ensure that the vehicles can drive safely. We must take safety as the bottom line and safety as the basis.
Exhibitors focusing on intelligent connected cars have also proposed to define safety by scenarios. The latest release of a complete set of intelligent security systems including life protection, body protection, health care, and privacy protection.
Vice President of Selis Group Kombo: In the era of intelligence and electrification, safety is the greatest luxury. Our goal is to protect the safety of people, cars and objects in all aspects, and provide users and consumers with security guarantees throughout their life cycle.
Balanced intelligence and safety
Experts interpret the level of intelligent driving
From this Shanghai Auto Show, it can also be seen that the development of intelligent new technologies and safety balance is becoming a consensus in the automotive industry. Some experts said that in the future, multiple parties need to work together to accelerate the construction of a standard system for intelligent driving.
Experts from the Chinese Society of Automobile Engineering told reporters that there are currently general basic standards for intelligent automobile driving at home and abroad. Automated driving is divided into six levels from L0-L5, among which L0 represents complete human driving, L1-L2 belongs to combined driving assistance, and L3-L5 is autonomous driving under different conditions.
Chairman of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineering Zhang Jinhua: Most of the models that are now commercialized and commonly used by consumers are concentrated in L1 and L2 levels. Levels L0 to L2 are actually assisted driving. Consumers should remember whether assisted driving is mainly based on human driving. The machine only plays an auxiliary role.
Experts said that at present, the L3 level still requires human-computer interaction, that is, under specific conditions, people must take over in a timely manner, and they are still in the pilot stage and are still far from large-scale commercial use.
In addition to correctly understanding and defining the current technical level, experts suggest that the entire standard system of intelligent driving should also be improved in the next step. Focus on standardizing intelligent functions and evaluation methods, carrying out scientific and accurate popular science publicity, and strengthening government supervision.
China Automobile Engineering Research Institute
Released an innovative evaluation system
As experts emphasized, ensuring safety requires improving the test evaluation dimension. During the auto show, the China Automobile Engineering Research Institute also released a new automobile evaluation system for the two dimensions of safety and health.
The newly released "Auto Safety and Reliable Testing System" mainly focuses on three aspects: body safety structure, vehicle reliability and environmental adaptability. Through 20 types of extreme scenario tests such as deep wading, continuous bumps, electromagnetic interference, and special environmental rolling, the functional reliability and structural safety of vehicles and components are verified.
The "Auto Health and Comfort Testing System" innovatively car evaluation and summer extreme environment evaluation focusing on special groups and special environments of car use. Focus on detecting 12 indicators in the car air, electromagnetic radiation, energy consumption attenuation, charging efficiency and other indicators in extreme environments, and tracking the release of harmful substances such as formaldehyde.
Wang Honggang, Deputy General Manager of China Automobile Engineering Research Institute: We have developed a series of verification test and evaluation rules in a targeted manner, which will help the technology improvement and iteration of cars during the development process, and it is also a reliable basis for consumers to choose and buy cars.
