CCTV News: The reporter learned from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology that on the 13th, the revised mandatory national standards for electric bicycles were officially released. What changes have been made to the new standard? Let’s learn about it together.
The new standard clearly states that the total mass of plastic used by electric bicycles should not exceed 5.5% of the quality of the whole vehicle; in addition, the maximum quality limit of the electric bicycle using lead-acid batteries will be increased from 55kg to 63kg; and electric bicycles are required to have Beidou positioning, communication and dynamic safety monitoring functions; pedal riding devices are no longer mandatory; it is clear that electric bicycles are encouraged to install rearview mirrors; manufacturers are required to clarify the recommended service life of electric bicycles and mark them on the nameplate and product certificates.
The new standard sets an 8-month production transition period: on and before August 31, 2025, enterprises can produce both the old standards and the new standards; after September 1, 2025, all newly produced electric bicycles must meet the requirements of the new standards.
Vehicles that consumers have purchased that do not meet the new standards will not be forced to be eliminated. Local governments can accelerate the update and replacement based on local actual conditions and use policies such as old-for-new transactions.
